PURPOSE: To rationalize the shipment of newspapers and reduce labor, by making small sheaves of prescribed number of newspapers, putting the sheaves in containers and sending out the containers to retail stores.
CONSTITUTION: Containers, in which newspapers are put, are returned from newspaper retail stores and carried from trucks 5 by a conveyor 6 and piled up in a yard 7. A predetermined number of containers are brought onto a stand- by conveyor 10 by an overhead conveyor 9. Sheaves of newspapers are sequentially put in the containers in accordance with requests from counter stackers 1. The containers are then transferred to a shipping conveyor 4 through conveyors 12 and senders 13 and loaded in the trucks 5 for shipment. By the use of containers, the newspapers do not need to be wrapped and to be bound for sheafing and can be handled without packing.
