PURPOSE: To improve the rate of dephosphorization and the rate of desulfurization at the same time when molten iron is simultaneously dephosphorized and desulfurized with a quick lime-base flux, by using a substance for lowering the oxygen potential of slag.
CONSTITUTION: When molten iron charged into a vessel is simultaneously dephosphorized and desulfurized with a quick lime-base flux, a substance for reducing iron oxide in slag formed on the molten iron bath by the treatment to lower the oxygen potential of the slag is used. For example, a mixture contg. the reduced substance of iron oxide in Al and/or C-base slag by an amount ≤about 0.3 time the amount (weight) of a dephosphorizing and desulfurizing agent is used as a refining agent for dephosphorization and desulfurization contg. a lime- base flux as the principal component.
