Abstract:

PURPOSE: To simultaneously determine the amounts of anions and cations by ion chromatography.

CONSTITUTION: This simultaneously determining method is provided with a process in which a sample solution is mixed with an eluate containing a weak acid having an acid dissociation constant of 2 to 5 and another process in which the mixed solution is introduced to the separation column of a hydrogen type cation exchange body having a weak-acid cation exchange group and cations are separated from the mixed solution based on the difference in affinity of the cations against the cation exchange body after anions are separated from the mixed solution by utilizing the ion excluding action of the cation exchange body. In addition, the method also has a process in which anions and cations are successively detected by continuously monitoring the conductivity of an eluate from the separation column.
