Abstract:
To provide a method for smelting a nickel oxide ore capable of efficiently producing a valuable metal of a high quality (high grade) in a smelting method for producing a valuable metal by reducing pellets containing nickel oxide ores.SOLUTION: A method for smelting a nickel oxide ore includes the steps of: a mixture preparation step of preparing a mixture containing a nickel oxide ore, a carbonaceous reductant, and a slag control agent capable of controlling the viscosity of slag; a mixture molding step of molding pellets from the mixture; a reduction treatment step of obtaining a nickel-containing valuable metal and slag by subjecting the pellets obtained in the mixture molding step to heat reduction; and a recovery step of separating the valuable metal and slag obtained in the reduction treatment step to recover the valuable metal. The slag control agent is mixed in the mixture preparation step so as to satisfy a predetermined condition.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
