PURPOSE: To obtain a graft-processed silk fabric, capable of maintaining a touch unique to silk and excellent in softness by regulating the touch-feeding without using any softener.
CONSTITUTION: A silk fabric subjected to graft processing with a vinyl monomer, preferably (meth)acrylic acid vinyl monomer having hydroxyl group is washed with a weak alkaline chemical, preferably sodium tripolyphosphate, hydrosulfite or Marseille soap to remove low-molecular weight homopolymers and water-soluble impurities permeated into interstices between fibers. The resultant silk fabric is subsequently washed with water and dried. The dried silk fabric is then subjected to operation while being soaked in a solvent having a low dielectric constant (preferably having <3.0 dielectric constant) such as tetrachloroethylene, mineral turpentine or dry.cleaning liquid by using preferably a rotating type washing device to elute high-molecular weight homopolymers. Thereby, the objective silk fabric excellent in softness is obtained. The touch- feeling of the resultant silk fabric will neither become coarse and hard not partially vary by wearing, washing or dry cleaning.
