To provide a method of spreading a carpet which is made free from troubles such as tripping thereon while people pass leading to injury or damaging socks by using a gripper having no pin at probable points to fix the carpet.

A pinless gripper G2 having no pin is used at a specified location such as those where people enter or leave among sides of a surface to be covered such as floor surface to fix the end rim of a carpet on the pinless gripper G2 with an adhesive A. A normal gripper G1 with pins having numerous pins planted askew upward is used at the remaining points of the sides of the surface to be covered to fix the end rim of the carpet on the pins of the gripper G1 with the pins.
