PURPOSE: To exterminate completely a recombinant microorganism, by adding an ester of a para-hydroxybenzoic acid to sterilize a culture fluid of the recombinant microorganism and extracting and purifying a physiologically active substance from the culture.
CONSTITUTION: An ester of a para-hydroxybenzoic acid is added to a culture fluid of a recombinant microorganism to sterilize the cultivated microorganism, and a physiologically active substance is extracted and purified from the culture. The above-mentioned microorganism is a microorganism, transformed by a plasmid or phage vector achieved by recombinant DNA technique or genetic manipultation technique, and having an ability ot produce physiologically active polypeptides. A 3W4C straight or branched chain alkyl ester is preferred for the ester of the para-hydroxybenzoic acid and the concentration thereof to be used is preferably 0.5W3.0% as the final concentration.
