PURPOSE: To provide an industrially advantageous method for sterilizing treatment in which a small-sized apparatus for pressurizing can be used and dripping can be minimized by utilizing an aqueous phase below the ice point.
CONSTITUTION: A material, to be sterilized is housed in a hermetically sealable container, hermetically sealed, subsequently housed in a pressurization treating vessel filled with an antifreeze solution and then successively subjected to the following steps: step 1: a step for cooling the material to be sterilized to ≤0°C while applying a pressure under which water can be present in a liquid state to the material to be sterilized, subsequently releasing the pressure and then freezing the water in the material to be sterilized and step 2: a step for keeping the material to be sterilized at ≤0°C, applying a pressure under which the water can be present as liquid at this temperature to the material to be sterilized in its state kept at ≤0°C and then thawing the water in the material to be sterilized.
