PURPOSE: To provide a method by which a material roll, particularly a paper roll, is brought into/out of a central adhesive preparing station and hence receive and take out a paper roll by a simple means.

CONSTITUTION: A paper roll 11 is transferred toward a gate-type frame unit 1 by a conveyor 61, received into the gate-type frame unit 1 by arm-type conveyors 23 and 24, fed in a vertical movement direction to a working plane II from a conveyance plane I, made to ascend toward a horizontally symmetrical position corresponding to the width (b) of the paper roll 11 and transferred to an adhesive preparing station 52. Then the adhesive preparing station 52 is transferred toward the paper roll 11 in a horizontal direction X until it is brought into contact with the paper roll 11 at a predetermined adhesive preparing position III and the paper roll 11 is turned to form an adhesive end part.
