Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for synthesizing an acrylic acid ester using, as a main ingredient, glycerin originating from a biomaterial.SOLUTION: A method for synthesizing an acrylic acid ester expressed by CH=CH-COO-R (R is an alkyl group including 1-18 carbon atoms as well as, if necessary, nitrogen as a hetero atom) includes a first step of preparing acrolein expressed by the formula: CH=CH-CHO by dehydrating, in the presence of an acid catalyst, glycerol: CHOH-CHOH-CHOH, a second step of converting, via catalytic oxidation, the obtained acrolein into acrylic acid CH=CH-COOH, and a third step of obtaining the acrylic acid ester by esterifying the acid obtained at the second step with an alcohol: ROH. The ester obtained by this method and originating from a biomaterial is also provided. The ester is used as a monomer or comonomer for polymerization so as to obtain a polymer thereof.
