Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for synthesizing a (substituted) aliphatic, alicyclic or araliphatic chloroformate by a reaction of phosgene, diphosgene and/or triphosgene with a corresponding alcohol.
SOLUTION: The reaction is carried out under a pressure of ≤95×103 Pa (i.e., 950 millibars) at a temperature in the range of -30°C to 50°C. The reaction is suitable for producing especially menthyl chloroformate and bencyl chloroformate.
