Abstract:

PURPOSE: To rapidly produce an aromatic polyamide useful for engineering plastics, etc., by reacting an aromatic dihalide compound with a diamino compound in the presence of a cobalt-phosphine complex and a basic substance in the atmosphere of CO gas.

CONSTITUTION: An aromatic dihalide compound of formula: X1-Ar-X2 (X1, X2 are independently Br, I; Ar is aromatic group) is reacted with a diamino compound of formula: H2N-R-NH2 (R is hydrocarbon group) in the presence of a cobalt-phosphine complex and a basic substance in the atmosphere of carbon monoxide to obtain an aromatic polyamide of the formula. A polycondensation reaction through a carbonylation process proceeds rapidly.
