Abstract:
Prepn. of beta-cyanoalkyl silanes of formula (I) comprises contacting a silicon hydride of formula RaHbSiX4-a-b (II) with an alpha,beta-unsatd. olefinic nitrile of formula YCH=CYCN (III) in the presence of a new catalyst at 50-200 deg.C. The catalyst comprises (i) an aminoorganosilane of formula RdSiR1NR2(2) (IV), and (ii) a Cu source. R=1-20C (substd.) monovalent hydrocarbons, 1-20C alkoxy, or aryloxy; R1=1-20C (substd.) bivalent hydrocarbons; R2=H, 1-20C (substd.) monovalent hydrocarbons, aminoalkyl (alkyl=1-20C), alkylamino alkyl (alkyl=1-20C), alkylamino dialkyl (alkyl=1-20C), dialkylaminoalkyl (alkyl=1-20C), and polyamino alkyl (alkyl=1-20C); X=a halogen; Y=H or 1-8C alkyl; n=1, 2 or 3; a=0, 1 or 2; b=1, 2 or 3; a+b=1, 2 or 3; and d=0, 1, 2 or 3. Pref. (I), (II) and (IV) are specifically claimed, where R=CH3. (IV) where a first R2=CH3, and a second R2=N',N'-dimethylaminoethyl, are also specifically claimed. The prepn. is pref. in an oxygen-free environment under homogeneous conditions in a continuous-flow pressure coil. Prepn. temp. is 100-180 deg.C and reaction time is 0.5-15 hrs.
