Title:
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR AUTOMATIC ALLOCATION OF BOOT SERVER TO PXE CLIENT ON NETWORK VIA DHCP SERVER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3643330
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve response speeds of PXE(Pre Boot Execution Environment) clients with avoiding multiple loadings of allocated boot servers.
SOLUTION: Every boot server respectively holds server allocation tables(SAT) including the present value of the number of times that loaded the boot servers (1). Client allocation tables(CAT) establishing links between IP addresses of each client and corresponding boot servers are held (2). Every time when updating the SATs, priorities are given to the boot servers by sorting the SATs in ascending order of the number of times that loaded the boot servers (3). Every time when a client demands a DHCP(Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server, IP addresses of the boot servers are provided at every access in the order listed in the SATs. Accordingly, a higher priority on service is given to the boot server with the smallest number of the times that loaded the boot servers, so that the multiple loadings of the boot servers can be avoided (4).
