To provide a method and a system for effectively compensating the low frequency vibration of an elevator car to prevent passengers from sensing it.

The elevator car 5 is guided by at least one guide rail 7. Vibration is detected at a disturbance source 8 by at least one first sensor (1 or 1'), and vibration is detected at the part of the elevator car 5 influenced by the vibration, by at least one second sensor 2. The detected vibration is recognized by a control means 3, and a compensation mass 4 is systematically driven by the control means 3 to offset the detected vibration by the compensation force of equal grade of an opposite sign.
