Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a method for operating the engine of a vehicle so as to provide much higher output capability in response to operating conditions requesting the increase of output and to reduce the dispersion of a speed by maintaining the speed of the vehicle even when the vehicle speed can not be controlled by a cruising control feedback system.
CONSTITUTION: When the speed of a vehicle 10 falls a prescribed DELTA miles/ hour below a learned speed 14a of the vehicle, the engine can operate 16a with much higher output capability until the vehicle resumes a learned speed 14d. Further, even when a vehicle deceleration 14e exceeds a prescribed deceleration rate, high output capability is enabled 16b. Once the vehicle keeps the learned speed 14d, high output capability is disabled again.
