Abstract:

PURPOSE: To shorten the time required to change upshift gear ratios by providing retarding torque to the engine when the engine speed exceeds the synchronous speed that executes engagements of target gear ratios.

CONSTITUTION: A currently engaged gear is disengaged and an appropriate target gear is selected in S84, wherein the transmission is in a neutral position. If found exceeding an idle reference value in S86, the engine speed ES is passed to S88 that determines whether it is in a synchronous range with respect to the output shaft speed OS. If a synchronous range is seen, retarding torque is removed in S90 and the target gear is engaged in S92. If no synchronous range is seen, retarding torque is established in S94. The nearness rate of the engine speed ES and the synchronous speed is examined in S96. If the nearness rate is satisfactory, the routine returns to S86. Otherwise, alternate control is implemented in S98.
