To provide a method and a system for estimating the moving state of a user in a short period of time and with high accuracy by using a model group for estimating the moving state of the user.
The method estimates the moving state of the portable terminal apparatus which includes at least a CPU, a memory and an environment information acquiring apparatus. The memory stores a group of first symbol strings composed by at least two or more symbols (ID) which represent a prescribed moving state. The CPU is provided with: a step which symbolizes the environment information value which is collected for a prescribed period by the environment information acquiring apparatus; a step which repeats the symbolizing step by shifting the prescribed period by a constant period for at least two or more times and generating a second symbol string which is composed of a plurality of symbolized environment information values which are repeatedly generated; and a step deriving the likelihood of the second symbol string against the first symboll string. By specifying the first symbol string in which the likelifood is maximum, the moving state can be estimated.
