Title:
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR MAKING TRANSITION OF AERIAL VEHICLE BETWEEN CROSSWIND FLIGHT AND HOVER FLIGHT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2019048630
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
To provide a method and a system for making transition of an aerial vehicle between certain flight modes that facilitate conversion of kinetic energy to electrical energy.SOLUTION: A method can include making an aerial vehicle travel along a first closed path on a tether sphere while the vehicle is oriented in a crosswind-flight orientation. A tether may be connected to the aerial vehicle at a first end and be connected to a ground station at a second end. Further, the tether sphere may have a radius corresponding to length of the tether. The method may further include, while the aerial vehicle is in the crosswind-flight orientation, operating the aerial vehicle to travel along a second closed path on the tether sphere so that speed of the aerial vehicle is reduced. Also, the method may include, after the speed of the aerial vehicle is reduced or while the speed is being reduced, making transition of the aerial vehicle from a state of traveling along the second closed path while in the crosswind-flight orientation to a hover-flight orientation.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
