PURPOSE: To provide a thread taking-up method capable obtaining a coene- shaped package excellent in a spreading property, in the case of the thread taking-up method for bringing the cone-shaped package into rolling contact with a traversing drum in which a traversing groove is engraved.

CONSTITUTION: In the case of a thread taking-up method in which a cone-shaped package is brought into rolling contact with a traversing drum 11 in a surface of which a traversing groove 22 is engraved, a deformation part, formed of a plurality of ring-shaped hollows 12 or the take, is provided in a surface of the traversing drum 11 to form a ring-shaped protrusion or the like by transferring the deformation part of the traversing drum 11 to a taking-up surface of the cone-shaped package. This ring-shaped protrusion or the like prevents contact between a thread during spreading and a package surface layer so as to prevent the upper thread from falling off.
