Title:
METHOD FOR THERMAL DECOMPOSITION OF COAL IN COMBINATION WITH ORIMULSION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH07216367
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To expand applications of Orimulsion by blowing it into a high-temp. gas stream of CO and H2 in the rapid heating and thermal decomposition of a carbonaceous raw material to prepare a gas, tar, and char, thereby preparing a decomposition product of a high value added.

CONSTITUTION: Pulverized coal 1 and Orimulsion 2 (an aqueous emulsion of Orinoco tar, an ultraheavy fuel oil produced in Venezuela) is slurried in a slurrying device. The slurry is blown in an atomized form into a thermal decomposition oven 6. Sensible heat of a high-temp. gas of 1400 to 1800°C, composed mainly of CO and H2 and generated from a char gasification oven 7, is fed into the thermal decomposition oven Conditions for a reaction in the thermal decomposition oven are preferably a temp. of 600 to 900°C, a gas residence time of 2 to 3 sec, and a pressure of not more than 10 atm. The char is then separated and recycled to the gasification oven, where it is completely gasified by oxygen 11 and steam 12. When the mixing proportion of the Orimulsion to the coal is not less than 30wt.%, the products are tar 16, gas oil (BTX) 18, and high-calorie gas 19 as a component of a high value added. The formation of char can be brought to substantially zero.
