To provide a method and a tool for manufacturing a metallic catalyst carrier, by each of which a honeycomb body can be press-fit/housed excellently in an outer cylinder without buckling the honeycomb body.
The method for manufacturing the metallic catalyst carrier includes: a honeycomb body forming step of winding a corrugated metallic foil sheet 4 and a flat metallic foil sheet 5 in a superposed state a large number of times to form the rolled honeycomb body 2; an outer cylinder forming step of forming the cylindrical outer cylinder 3 longer than the honeycomb body 2; and a press-fitting step of inserting the honeycomb body into the outer cylinder through a guide part 19e, which is used for reducing the diameter of the honeycomb body 2 and inserted into the edge of the outer cylinder 3, and press-fitting the inserted honeycomb body to the inside of the outer cylinder from such a position that the inserted honeycomb body is moved to the inside of the outer cylinder 3 to the axial direction by a predetermined margin L1.
