To provide a method for efficiently detoxifying the soil contaminated with dioxin, and bottom sediment, etc.
Contaminants such as dioxins are heat-treated by using an apparatus in which two contaminant heating units each turnably holding a plurality of heating tube groups are connected to each other in series through a connection duct in a heating furnace. Air is made to flow to the direction similar to a contaminant transferring direction in the first heating unit and air is made to flow to the direction opposite to the contaminant transferring direction in the second heating unit. The gases discharged respectively from the first and second heating units are treated in a high-temperature separation unit so that the separated suspended matter is supplied to the second heating unit.
