Abstract:
To provide a method for treating dioxins and PCB (polychlorinated biphenyls) by which even aspects of environmental protection are excellent and practicality is high because contaminants containing the dioxins and PCB can readily, safely and surely be subjected to a detoxication treatment at a low cost and toxic substances are not formed as by-products.
The contaminants containing the dioxins and PCB are extracted with a solvent and the resultant extract liquid is reacted with hydrogen in the presence of a sponge nickel catalyst and an alkali. Thereby, the dioxins and PCB in the extract liquid are dechlorinated and degraded.
