To solve the problem that a large-scale treatment plant is necessary and, even when the concentration of contained PCB is low, it takes labor and cost for treatment, because, for detoxication of equipment with PCB-containing insulation oil enclosed therein, the PCB-containing insulation oil and a equipment container are separated from each other and, thereafter, the treatment of PCB is performed respectively for the PCB-containing insulation oil and the equipment container.
In the treatment method, PCB is subjected to dechlorination decomposition, by irradiating low-concentration PCB-containing insulation oil with -rays from the outside of the equipment in the state as it is without extracting the low-concentration PCB-containing insulation oil from the equipment container. The treatment as an ordinary industrial waste is permitted if the concentration of PCB is reduced to the legal reference value or less. Therefore, it is made unnecessary to treat the equipment with PCB-containing insulation oil enclosed therein, with the large-scale treatment plant.
