To provide a method of cheaply, efficiently, easily, and safely removing a SO3 component and sulfuric acid mist derived therefrom that are contained in a gas comprising a SO3 component, for example, a gas generated by burning fuel comprising sulfur in a boiler or the like and generate white smoke, blue smoke or the like.
The method of treating a gas generated by burning fuel in a boiler 1 and sent through a flue to an air preheater 2, a desulfurization device 4, and subsequently to a smokestack 5, includes decomposing sodium hydrogencarbonate powder of a mean particle diameter of not greater than 20 μm, of an angle of depose of not greater than 65°, and of a degree of dispersion of not lower than 10% using a gas medium heated up to 60°C or higher, and spraying the resulting material into a gas comprising SO2 in an amount of at least 500 volume ppm and further comprising a SO3 component, at least in one flue, to remove the SO3 component in the gas.
