To provide a method for treating papermaking sludge, which is improved so much that the working environment or the environments of neighboring areas can be improved by reducing the treatment cost of the papermaking sludge much more than before and removing a bad smell to be emitted at a dehydration step.
The method for treating papermaking sludge includes the steps of: deodorizing/modifying the papermaking sludge by using one or more inorganic oxides selected from the group consisting of chlorite, hypochlorite, bromate, bromite, hypobromite and hydrogen peroxide; successively adding a nonionic water-soluble polymer based on acrylamide, a cationic water-soluble vinyl polymer and/or an amphoteric water-soluble vinyl polymer in this order to the deodorized/modified papermaking sludge to flocculate the resulting sludge; and dehydrating the flocculated sludge by a dehydrator.
