To provide a method for producing benzenes remarkably useful as a raw material for chemical industries and pharmaceutical industries by using a plastic (polystyrene) as a raw material.

The method comprises a dissolution process for mixing the plastic(polystyrene) with a solvent, heating and dissolving the plastic (polystyrene), a hydrocracking process for reacting the solution of the plastic (polystyrene) obtained in the dissolution process with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst, a distillation process for obtaining heavy distillate fractions (benzenes and heavy distillate fractions) and a thermal cracking process for obtaining the benzenes by thermally cracking the heavy distillate fractions obtained in the distillation process.
