To provide a method for treating selenium-containing liquid waste, which comprises an electrolysis step to electrolyze the pH-adjusted liquid waste by bringing it into contact with an anode, which is composed of a metal component to be eluted by electrolysis, of an electrolytic cell and is improved so that SeO42- in the liquid waste can be reduced/removed efficiently by a small amount of the metal component to be eluted by electrolysis.
This method for treating selenium-containing liquid waste comprises: a pH adjusting step to adjust the pH of the liquid waste containing at least hexavalent selenium to 2-6 by adding an acid to the liquid waste; the electrolysis step to electrolyze the pH-adjusted liquid waste by bringing it into contact with an anode, which is composed of the metal component to be eluted by electrolysis, of the electrolytic cell and; a neutralization step to neutralize the liquid waste electrolyzed in the electrolytic cell and precipitate/recover selenium together with a hydroxide of the metal component to be eluted from the anode.
