To provide a technology regarding a method for treating slag by which free CaO contained necessarily in the slag is completely hydrated regardless of slag properties such as basicity and temperature, in a step of cooling high-temperature slag using a rotary cooler equipped with cooling water supplying means therein.

The rotary cooler includes a first cooling water supplying means and a second cooling water supplying means therein. The high-temperature slag having a temperature of 1,250-800°C at the inlet of the rotary cooler is cooled to 460-300°C by the first cooling water supplying means, being kept at the temperature of 460-300°C for a fixed time between the first cooling water supplying means and the second cooling water supplying means, and then is cooled to 200-100°C by the second cooling water supplying means to be discharged from the rotary cooler.
