PURPOSE: To prevent the scattering of broken pieces of a specimen so that the uniaxial compressive strength of the specimen can be easily measured and the measuring accuracy can be improved by surrounding the specimen with a cylindrical cover.
CONSTITUTION: After setting a cylindrical specimen 1 on a lower pressure- resistant plate 5 by inserting the lower part of the specimen 1 into the recessed section 5a of the plate 5, a cylindrical cover 6 is put around the sample 1 and another cylindrical cover 8 is put on the specimen 1, with the lower part of the cover 8 being inserted into the inside of the cover 6. After putting the cover 8, the uniaxial compressive strength of the specimen 1 is measured by pressing a hydraulic ram 4 against the specimen 1 through an upper pressure-resistant plate 3. Therefore, the scattering of broken pieces can be prevented when the specimen 1 is broken and the cleaning of the surrounding area of the testing machine becomes unnecessary. In addition, the cracking of the specimen 1 by drying can be prevented and the uniaxial compressive strength measuring accuracy can be improved, since the covers 6 and 8 prevent the specimen 1 from drying.
