To provide a mixture comprising an acetal and an oleophilic alcohol and/or an oleophilic ester which is excellent in heat stability or the like and useful in obtaining inverted emulsion drilling muds or emulsion drilling muds.
A desired mixture comprises (A) an acetal based on a 2-10C dialdehyde such as, preferably glyoxal, tartar-dialdehyde and succindialdehyde, glyoxal being particularly preferred and a 1-25C, particularly 4-20C monovalent alcohol and (B) an oleophilic alcohol (particularly preferably, a 10-16C straight chain alcohol) and/or an oleophilic ester (preferably, an ester based on a mono-, di- or trifunctional alcohol and a 1-25C carboxylic acid or the like). Further, this mixture is useful in (inverted) emulsion drilling muds or the like.
