To provide a method for utilizing zinc-containing iron scraps by which, when utilizing the zinc-containing iron scraps as an iron source in an iron manufacturing process, zinc can be removed from the zinc-containing iron scraps by a simple and inexpensive method and, as the result, even in the case where the zinc-containing iron scraps are used as an iron source without previously removing the zinc in the scraps by means of heating treatment etc., zinc concentration does not occur in the dust recovered from various iron manufacturing processes and the recovered dust can be used, as it is, as a raw material for iron manufacture.
The zinc-containing iron scraps are charged into a high-temperature vessel constructed of refractory material, and the zinc in the zinc-containing iron scraps is oxidized and vaporized using the heat of the above vessel. After the removal of the zinc by vaporization, hot metal is poured into the vessel.
