To provide a method for washing a biomass, a method for producing a biomass charcoal and a method for operating a vertical furnace to produce the biomass charcoal having a low alkali metal content even by using the biomass containing an alkali metal such as potassium and sodium.
The method for washing the biomass includes: a first step of subjecting the biomass to at least one treatment for drying, softening or breaking cell membrane; and a second step of washing the biomass treated in the first step with water. The treatment for softening or breaking cell membrane is conducted by pressurizing the biomass under a superatmospheric pressure. The method for producing the biomass charcoal includes dry-distilling the washed biomass. The method for operating the vertical furnace includes injecting the produced biomass charcoal, as a biomass charcoal to be injected into the vertical furnace, through a tuyere of the vertical furnace.
