PURPOSE: To wash crystallized ice particles efficiently with less washing water by washing said particles in two steps by the use of raw sea water and formed fresh water in desalting of sea water by refrigeration desalting.
CONSTITUTION: The 1st-stage spray washing device 11 is provided at the intermediate of the ice particle layers ascending in a washing vessel 1, and ice particles are washed by using raw sea water. The brine of high salt concn. around the ice particles is substituted with sea water by the 1st stage washing, whereby the salt concn. is lowered. Thence, formed fresh water is supplied from the 2nd stage spraying device 12 to wash the sea water around the ice particles. Since the ice particles are washed in two steps in this way, the amount of the fresh water used for the washing may be decreased and the yield of fresh water increases.
