The method for working the mortise for joint rod metal fittings 20 to be inserted into the structural material 10 such as the beam, the column material or the like, is provided with a process wherein a drill bit for woodworking of b≤22 mm, 150≤L≤200 mm is attached to a drilling machine to drill a primary mortise 40 in the structural material 10, and a process wherein a drill bit for woodworking of b'≤22 mm and L'>200 mm is attached to the drilling machine, the drill bit for woodworking is inserted into the primary mortise 40, and a secondary mortise 40 is drilled.
