To provide methods for cell culture comprising stimulating or expanding (proliferating) cells in cell compositions.SOLUTION: In some aspects, provided are methods and reagents for proliferating a cell population, e.g., stimulating or expanding a cell population, that involve binding of an agent to a molecule on the surface of the cells, thereby providing one or more signals to the cells. In some cases, the reagent is a reagent containing a plurality of binding sites for the agent, such as a multimerization reagent, and thus the one or more agents are multimerized by reversibly binding to the reagent. In some aspects, the multimerized agents can provide for expansion or proliferation or other stimulation of a cell population, and then such stimulatory agent can be removed by disruption of the reversible bond.
