Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods of producing environmentally friendly fuel compositions and specialty chemicals from a natural feedstock as substitution for petroleum fuel.SOLUTION: Provided are methods for reacting a natural oil with an olefin such as 1-butene in the presence of a metathesis catalyst to form a metathesized product comprising new olefins and glycerol esters, and separating the olefins from the esters in the metathesized product. The methods also comprise hydrogenating the olefins under conditions sufficient to form a fuel composition. The methods further comprise transesterifying the esters in the presence of an alcohol to form one or more transesterified products selected from a 9-decenoic acid ester, a 9-undecenoic acid ester, a 9-dodecenoic acid ester, and any combinations thereof.SELECTED DRAWING: None
