PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods of upregulating and downregulating protein kinase C useful for stimulating cellular growth and synaptic remodeling and enhancing memory, and compositions and methods for the treatment of cell proliferative disorders.SOLUTION: A pharmaceutical composition comprises an effective amount of protein kinase C (PKC) activator that is bryostatin or neristatin and a pharmacologically acceptable carrier, and stimulates the plasticity of synapses in a subject.
