Title:
Mg ALLOY, AND CASTING METHOD OR FORGING METHOD OF THE SAME
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2007046071
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To obtain an Mg-alloy casting or forging in which Fe content is decreased to a value lower than 0.002 wt.%.

An Mg alloy raw material thrown into a melting furnace 3 is melted to undergo component regulation, subjected to temperature fall down to about 630°C, allowed to stand for at least 30 min and then tapped. The resultant molten metal discharged from the melting furnace 3 is cooled while flowing down along an inclined cooling body 8 to form crystal nuclei (primary crystals), flows down while growing crystals and is grown into granular state in a tundish 9 to form semisolid slurry. The semisolid slurry in the tundish 9 is fed into a water-cooled mold 11, and an Mg-alloy billet 13 is continuously manufactured by this water-cooled mold 11.
