Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provided a mixture which is effective in inhibiting growth of fungi on surfaces of wood, tanned leather, paper and cloth, for example, preventing intrusion of fungi into white cedar just after cutted, and which is prepared by mixing a water-soluble ionene polymer and water-soluble borate in a specified ratio.
CONSTITUTION: This microbicidal mixture consists of a combination of 1 to 99 wt.% 60% ionene polymer and 1 to 99 wt.% water-soluble borate and is effective in inhibiting growth of fungi, especially growth on surfaces of wood, tanned leather, plastics, paints, paper, paper board and cloth. The ionene polymer is expressed by the formula, wherein (n) is 4 to 40, such as poly[oxyethylene(dimethyliminio)ethylene(dimethyliminio)etchylene dichloride], etc. The water-soluble borate is disodium octaborate tetrahydrate, sodium pyroborate decahydrate, etc. By using two kinds of compds., hazard for the environment can be largely decreased.
