PURPOSE: To provide a stable oil-in-water type microemulsion cleaning composition essentially effective for removing oily and greasy soil from a hard surface and for repelling an insect therefrom.
CONSTITUTION: The aqueous phase of the microemulsion comprises, by weight of the total composition, (A) about 0.1 - about 25% of a mixture of surfactants of (i) an anionic surfactant, (ii) a nonionic surfactant with the proviso that the wt. ratio of (i) and (ii) is about 1:1 to about 5:1 and (iii) a salt of a multivalent metal cation in an amount to provide 0.1-1.5 equivalents of cation relative to 1 equivalent of (i) (with the proviso that the anionic surfactant, the nonionic surfactant and the amount of the salt of the multivalent metal cation can be selected such that the cloud point of the finished microemulsion composition is about 45°C), (B) about 0.1 - about 30% of a water soluble auxiliary surfactant having substantially no power to dissolve oily or greasy soil and (C) the balance water.
