Abstract:
PURPOSE: To control the temperature of the internal tube volume at the closed end of a tube by providing a micropipette with a means for controlling the volume temp. within the tube which has a small bore in which liquid rises by capillary action and is enclosed with the liquid within the tube. CONSTITUTION: A glass capillary 10 has the small bore over the length 12 of s tube and has a large bore over the remaining length 14 of the tube. The end part 16 of the length 14 is hermetically sealed and is brought into direct contact with a filament lamp 18 acting as a heater. The end 20 of a small bore of the tube is immersed into a liquid 22 to be distributed and the liquid is pulled up therein by the capillary action until the pressure of the gas in the inside part at the broad part of the front end is equaled to the pressure of the capillary. When liquid meniscus 24 arrives at an equil. position, the glass tube is withdrawn from the liquid and is placed in the target position for distribution.
