PURPOSE: To simplify and miniaturize a structure and make it lightweight by constituting a facsimile device with one feed/platen roller and one motor as compared with the conventional facsimile device provided with a feed roller on a document feed path and a platen roller on a recording paper discharge path respectively and driven by a separate motor.

CONSTITUTION: A paper feed path 10 arranged with an image scanner 11 is provided on one side of a feed/platen roller 20, a recording paper discharge path 21 to be contacted or separated with a print head 22 is provided on the opposite side, and the print head 22 is brought into contact or separated when a rack 25 connected to it is moved to the right or left. The first gear 31 and the second gear 32 are meshed with the rack 25, a moving gear 33 connected to a motor 42 is swung to the right or left when the motor 42 is normally or reversely rotated, the moving gear 33 is meshed with the first gear 31 or the second gear 32, and the rack 25 is moved to the right or left. The motor 42 is reversed when switches 12a, 12b arranged on the upper side and the lower side of the paper feed path 10 respectively detect the transit of a document.
