PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extract a metallic slab without insufficient heating at the timing of extraction that sure joining is executed by extracting the 2nd and succeeding slabs at extracting pitches after extracting a 1st metallic slab so that the metallic slab to be joined is extracted after the predicted time of completion of heating.
SOLUTION: After the metallic slab 10 which is heated to a prescribed temp. is extracted from a heating furnace 12 and rough rolled, the rear end of a preceding material and the tip of the succeeding material are joined with a joining device 18. The predicted time of heating of each metallic slab 10 and the extracting pitch Pi from the heating furnace are determined and, after extracting the 1st slab, the 2nd and succeeding slabs are extracted at the extracting pitch Pi so that all metallic slab 10 is extracted after the lapse of a predicted time of heating. The extracting time of the 1st slab to be joined is taken so that when the heated time of the i-th metallic slab 10 is expressed as Ti, the extracting pitch between the i-th slab and the (i+1) the slab as Pi, a time after the time of maximizing a value of N sets of expressions (Ti-(O+P1+P2+...+Pi-1)) in which (1 to N) is substituted for the (i) is adopted. In this way, the metallic slab is extracted at the timing of surely joining the slabs without insufficient heating.
