Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP6309280
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
This invention relates to a milling tool that is equipped with milling inserts (2) below which there are shim plates (3), the primary function of which is to protect the basic body of the tool in the event of insert breakdowns. According to the invention, the shim plate (3) is formed with a protuberance (20), in which an auxiliary cutting edge (31) is included, which, in the assembled state of the tool, is located along an inactive cutting edge (20b), which is situated radially inside an active chip removing cutting edge (28a). By means of the auxiliary cutting edge (31), the milling tool can be utilized for ramping operations without risk of the inactive cutting edge of the milling insert being damaged.
