PURPOSE: To process a Japanese 'KANJI' (Chinese character) and a Chinese 'KANJI' as 'KANJI's in the same code set without executing code conversion by including a Japanese 'KANJI' basic collection and a Chinese 'KANJI' basic collection in the same code set space.
CONSTITUTION: The Japanese 'KANJI' basic collection (JIS 1st and 2nd standards) is allocated to a GO area occupied by 2-byte codes 2121 to 7878. On the other hand, the Chinese 'KANJI' basic collection (GB23 to 80) is allocated to a G1 area occupied by 2-byte codes AlAl to FEFE. A Chinese auxiliary set is allocated to remaining areas G2, G3. Thus all 32000 characters to be expressed by 2-byte codes are effectively utilized and both of Japanese and Chinese 'KANJI's can be mixed in the same code space. When a 'KANJI' font pattern is registered corresponding to the code set, the 'KANJI' data of both countries can be printed out in the same page of the same document without executing code conversion.
