PURPOSE: To provide an analysis device and its method which can be easily operated to correctly measure an air/fuel mixing ratio.
CONSTITUTION: Exhaust gas discharged from a tail pipe 44 of an internal combustion engine 40 flows in from an introducing port 13 of a tube 12 of a rarefying tunnel member 10 with peripheral air. Inflow air and exhaust gas are mixed at a screen 16 disposed in the tube 12, and part of mixed gas is introduced through a probe 20 disposed in the tube 12 to a gas analyser 24. Mixed gas may be compressed or filtrated prior to analysis. The gas analyser 24 measures a CO/CO2 ratio, and computes an air/fuel mixing ratio based on this value and fuel composition. The air/fuel mixing ratio is then adjusted to achieve target engine performance.
