When the mobile reproducing apparatus is set to a reproduction mode, a microphone 8 outputs a sound signal on the basis of the sound of an external environment. An amplifier 52 amplifies the sound signal received from the microphone 8. An environment level discrimining section 54 detects the volume of the sound of the external environment, on the basis of the amplified sound signal and an SDRAM 54 stores sound volume level data. An A/D converter 53 converts the analog sound signal into digital sound data, which are recorded on a recording medium 5, together with moving picture data. When a comparison discrimining section 54b discriminates that the value of the sound volume level data is a threshold or larger, an environment sound level discrimination section 54 outputs a mute signal to inhibit the sound output from a speaker 17. When the value of the sound volume level data is less than the threshold, the speaker 17 outputs the sound, in matching with the sound volume level data.
