To provide a method for modifying the subject compound useful as, e.g. an intermediate for fine chemicals, by reacting a 1,3,5-triazine derivative having a (mono-substituted) amino group with an alcohol under heating in the presence of a metallic catalyst and hydrogen.
This method is to react a 1,3,5-triazine derivative shown by the formula [at least one of X1 to X3 is an NHR1 (R1 is H, a (substituted) 1-20C alkyl, a (substituted)phenyl, or the like, and X1 to X3 other than NHR1 are each an NR2R3 are each a (substituted) 1-20C alkyl, a (substituted)phenyl, or the like) or the like] and having at least one amino or mono-substituted amino group on the carbon atom in the ring (e.g. 2,4,6-triamino-1,3,5-triazine) with an alcohol (e.g. ethanol) under heating in the presence of a metallic catalyst (e.g. 5% Pd-C catalyst) and hydrogen, to modify for obtaining the objective triazine derivative by introducing at least one alkyl or alknyl group into the amino or (mono-substituted)amino group.
